Specific Accessibility Considerations
No FULLY wheelchair bound access to ferry- we have partially lifted and assisted LIMITED mobility guests only (NOT wheelchair bound) off and on the Heron Islander - assumed "No Lift"policy for all staff
Helicopter transfers maybe an option for mobility impaired guests
In terms of mobility assistance, our clinic has one very basic wheelchair and a buggy for emergency use
Very limited water/beach wheelchair access
One fully wheelchair access room (100)
Restricted wheelchair access to Reception, Baillies Bar, Shearwater Restaurant. Certain downstairs rooms(without a lip/step) accessible for mobility impaired. No wheelchair bathroom access for these rooms (except Room 100)
Mobility frames and walking aids accessible for most downstairs rooms
Due to the natural environment, there is a risk of slips, trips or falls because of the uneven surfaces.
Service Animals are welcome to travel to the island. Guests travelling with the service animal must ensure they are carrying the necessary documentation to present to local authorities upon request. Due to the location of the island being in the Great Barrier Reef there are restrictions on pets and animals visiting the island and park. Guests need to be mindful that the island is home to a very large bird population, marine life such as turtles resting on the beach.

There is a nurse on duty during office hours, daily. And some staff are trained with first aid. If needed the resort can arrange to call the nurse on island outside of hours for emergencies or for urgent assistance.
Activities :
Bird and island tours, stargazing, presentations, evening entertainment and Junior Rangers are wheelchair accessible.
The Reef Creatures Lab and Research Station tours are accesible with wheelchairs suitable for soft sand paths
Island-based activities are designed to accommodate elderly individuals, young children also people with hearing, vision, and/or sensory impairments.
Advanced notice is requested for any specific conditions or needs to allow for adaptations or private tour arrangements to ensure accessibility and comfort
Dive/Snorkel boats and I-Spy (semi-submersible boat) NO access for wheelchair or walking aids
