Semi-sub Boat Tour

Heron Island’s semi-submarine allows visitors an amazing opportunity to view the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef without getting wet! An island favourite, this unique semi-submersible vessel does not fully plunge under the water’s surface, but allows guests to step down into the hull of a cruising underwater observatory to view the underwater environment through large glass windows.

The passenger cabin is relatively low, just a few metres below sea level, and this is where guests can relax and view one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World from below the ocean’s surface. A tour guide is available throughout the excursion to answer questions and point out the diverse marine life that calls the reef home. At any time, guests can leave the underwater cabin to relax on the unsubmerged deck.

Our new state-of-the-art semi-sub vessel, the I-SPY, gives visitors a chance to get up close and personal with loggerhead sea turtles, beautiful tropical fish, manta rays, sea snakes, marine mammals, and much more. There are more than 900 species of fish that inhabit the Great Barrier Reef surrounding Heron Island, and guests can sit back and enjoy a relaxed and comfortable viewing experience of stunning coral gardens and countless colourful fish swimming through the clear blue waters.

Heron Island’s semi-sub boat tour of the Great Barrier Reef is a fun, once-in-a-lifetime experience you don’t want to miss. A great activity for the whole family, come see nature at its most stunning on this unique Heron Island excursion.
