Heron Island is a natural coral cay 89kms off the coast of Queensland, so it's not another Great Barrier Reef resort, it's a resort on the Great Barrier Reef.

At 34 metres, The Heron Islander is specifically designed to provide a comfortable and spacious transfer from the Queensland mainland to Heron Island. Launched in 2007, she comfortably seats 170 and has a top speed of 30 knots (55kmh). The Heron Islander leaves once a day for Heron Island and returns once a day back to Gladstone.

Gladstone to Heron Island
The scheduled boat transfers to Heron Island depart several times per week from Gladstone Marina at 11:00 am (EST) and arrive at Heron Island at 1:00 pm (EST).
To connect with the 11:00 am launch departure to Heron Island, we recommend a flight arrival into Gladstone no later than 10:10 am. Please note, Delaware North does not accept responsibility for flight delays or flight schedule changes.
Guests arriving into Gladstone will be provided with a transfer from the airport to the Marina. Please make your way to the front of the Terminal once you have collected your luggage to meet the transfer service (transfer departs approx. 10:15 am).
A small number of Gladstone flights arrive after 10.10 am. If you are booked on one of these, the Helicopter or Seaplane Service is your best transfer option.
If you’re making your own way to Gladstone Marina you’ll find it at Bryan Jordan Drive, Gladstone. We strongly recommend you pre-book secure car lock-up facilities by calling Compleat Angler on 07 4972 7283, available for approximately $12 AUD per day ($60 AUD per week) for a covered car park or $10 AUD per day ($50 per week) for an uncovered park.
Heron Island to Gladstone
The scheduled boat transfers to Gladstone depart Heron Island several times per week at 1:00 pm (EST) and arrive at Gladstone Marina at 3:45 pm (EST).
The launch service from Heron Island connects with flights departing from Gladstone from 4:55 pm onwards. While we do meet these flights, this is weather and tides permitting. Please note, Delaware North does not accept responsibility for flight delays or flight schedule changes.
Guests departing via Gladstone Airport will be transferred from the Marina to the airport on arrival. Later flights may be available - please check with your airline.

HeliReef operate flights between Heron Island and Gladstone with a minimum of 4 guests, subject to availability.
Please make your own way to the HeliReef Terminal which is located a short 4 minute drive from the Main Gladstone Terminal.
Luggage restriction of 15kg per person applies at all times and we also require each guest's body weight to be advised at time of booking due to strict weight limitations on each flight.

Begin your holiday by catching a scenic seaplane flight between Gladstone and Heron Island and experience a unique perspective of the Great Barrier Reef.
Watch tropical islands from above, spot whales, sharks or turtles lurking below and view amazing turquoise reef formations before landing on beautiful Heron Island – all in just 25 minutes.
Land on the crystal clear waters of the Great Barrier Reef and walk the last meters through the tropical shallow water (up to knee height) to the shore of Heron Island.
Australia by Seaplane, operates the scenic transfers daily (excluding Christmas Day) between 7am and 4.30pm from Gladstone; and between 8am and 5.30pm from Heron Island subject to availability and tides times.
Arriving into Gladstone, please make your way to the Australia by Seaplane Office, close to the main Gladstone Airport Terminal. After collecting your luggage at the baggage carousel, please exit the main Airport Terminal and turn right, and you will find the Australia by Seaplane Office 100 metres from the Gladstone Airport (look for the cream building with the 'Australia by Seaplane' sign). Please allow 75 minutes prior to arrival and departure to allow for check-in procedures. A minimum of 2 passengers per flight are required to operate.
All seaplane flights are subject to payload restrictions and body weights must be advised at the time of booking.
A baggage allowance of 15kg per person applies for seaplane transfers, with soft suitcases or bags preferred. Secure luggage storage facilities are available and complimentary with Australia by Seaplane.
