Heron Island is a special place to both of us. Chris went to Heron Island five times during his time at University and has very happy memories of his time there. Since meeting, Chris had been telling Alison about what an amazing place it is, but for one reason or another we hadn't managed to get there for a holiday.

Then on the 7th of April 2011, whilst on a sailing holiday in the Whitsundays with a group of friends, Chris popped the question! He led up to the proposal by talking about how nice the beach on Heron Island is, and saying "we just need an excuse to go there... maybe we should get married and go there for the honeymoon?!" Alison thought he was joking, but then turned around and saw the ring box and heard the full proposal.

Of course Alison said yes, but little did Chris know that Alison had already thought of an excuse to go there - she'd booked a surprise trip to the Island for Chris' 30th (at the end of April)! Great minds think alike! After a very romantic long weekend on Heron Island the idea of getting married there came up. We looked at a lot of different options, but kept coming back to this very special place, which we would love to share with our family and friends.

While planning the wedding , Abi from the Heron Island team made the entire thing so easy to organise (even all the way from Sydney). She was always willing to talk to us about any detail and her hands on managment of us and our day was efficient but at the same time relaxed (so Heron)! Abi and her team had thought of everything and were so excellent at resolving anything that came up. If you are thinking of getting married somewhere remote - we would highly recommend considering Heron Island as your wedding destination.
